YING YANG POOL WITH BAR

The brief for this pool with bar area, DJ deck and gym was very specific and vision led. The client wanted a strong feeling of polarities and the contrasting elements of earth, wind, water and fire.

The pool was to be bright with lots of natural light to create a calm feeling during the day, yet dark and vibrant with a party feel during the evening, when he hosted guests and parties as a DJ himself.

Once you descended into the pool area via a staircase you were met with the true contrast of fire and water, a cylindrical fireplace sat in the middle with a glass outer, allowing you to gaze through and see the water of the pool on the other side through the flicker of flames. The client enjoyed swimming and requested an extra deep pool at 2 metres to inspire the feeling of never ending water, almost like a lagoon. Sauna and steam room were located near the fire to further express emotion of contrast.

Galvanized metal finishes and concrete tiles against luxury soft furnishings, curved walls of leather and elegant decor in the changing rooms and seating areas gave the edge of a trendy industrial bar with opulent notes. The bar was at the farthest end to encourage people to fill the space and use it to its full potential, whilst the DJ box overlooked from above on a mezzanine, the gym was also placed up in the mezzanine.

Air was allowed to stream through as the bar area opened up via large sliding doors, bringing the outside in. How was earth referenced you might ask? In our favourite feature; lighting in the floor appearing through cracks as though the earth had split open itself and guiding stepping stones placed to lead you safely to the bar.
